History, origin & features
This breed originated in the United Kingdom in the 19th century. It is the result of a cross between the Bulldog and the English Mastiff. It was used as a guard dog for estates and properties. This large dog is capable of apprehending poachers and waiting for orders. It was also a police dog. The Bullmastiff is a calm, loyal and courageous dog. Very attached to the members of the household, it is an excellent companion and guard dog. He is very fond of children and loves to play with them. To be at ease with other pets, they should be raised together to get along well. With his imposing build, it's important to train him from an early age. Training should be firm but gentle, using positive reinforcement. This canine has a powerful, muscular body, a broad head and a short muzzle. The coat is short and dense.
