History, origin & features
The origins of the Border Collie go back to the 17th century on the border between Scotland and England, hence the name “border”. Breeders selected the breed for its recognized aptitudes, such as intelligence, energy, obedience and keen eyesight. The Border Collie is a highly intelligent, lively breed, renowned for its energy and ability to learn and obey easily. It is also an attentive and vigilant dog, with a tendency to be very protective of its master and family. They are known for their ability to concentrate and perform specific tasks for which they have been trained. Border Collies are very sociable and affectionate, loyal to their owners and get on well with other animals. They have great stamina and can drive livestock with determination and thoroughness. Border Collies are medium-sized dogs with powerful muscles and athletic, agile bodies. Their coat can come in many different colors, but is always trimmed in white. Their coat is semi-long or short and dense, and their tail is long and bushy. It has a broad head with a relatively short muzzle, erect or semi-erect ears and wide-set brown, blue or minnow eyes.
