History, origin & features
The Hungarian Shorthaired Pointer is a very old breed. The dog of the Hungarian nobility, it was originally a cross between the Panonian Hound and the Turkish Yellowhound. Although an excellent companion dog, the Hungarian Pointer is first and foremost a hunting dog: its predatory instinct is stronger than that of other breeds, and its need for exercise is great. He'll enjoy tracking in large, wet, marshy areas.
But its gentle, docile, jovial and affectionate character makes it a perfect match for a family with children: there's not a hint of aggression. Hungarian Pointers are medium-sized dogs that are elegant, long and fine, but very lively. Their coat is short or wiry, depending on the variety. Their coat is generally a single-color fawn.
