History, origin & features
German Hounds are medium-sized dogs with an elegant, light appearance, despite their robust, muscular build. Their coat varies in color from red to fawn, with a black saddle or mantle and the white markings characteristic of Brackens. The Austrian Bracken is distinguished by a formidable sense of smell that is much appreciated by hare hunters. Docile, friendly and lively, Austrian Hounds are equally at home as hunting dogs or as companion animals in an active family with plenty of space to spare. They are very attached to their master. Medium-sized, this breed of dog is lanky, muscular but slender, with a lively gaze. Its coat is almost short, glossy and silky. The color of the coat reflects the breed's name: black with a few clearly defined tan markings, from light to dark fawn. The two tan markings above the eyes (four-eyed dog) must be present.
