German Brachet (Deutsche Bracke)

History, origin & features

The German Hound is said to be the result of various crosses between German pointing dogs and other European hounds. It was designed to be a versatile hunting dog, equally at home on the plains or in the forest, and capable of tracking any animal. The German Hound has all the qualities required for its role as a hunting dog: versatile, intelligent and lively, it is often used for searching for wounded game, hunting greyhounds and “feathering”. Their gentle, friendly nature makes them much appreciated companions. Medium-sized, German Hounds have an elegant, light appearance, despite their robust, muscular build. Their coat is short, hard and dense, and varies in color from red to fawn, with a black saddle or mantle and the white markings characteristic of Brackens.
