Bouvier des Flanders

History, origin & features

The Bouvier des Flandes has Franco-Belgian origins, and the discourse on its origins differs according to nationality: it is thought to be a cross between a Griffon and the ancient Berger de Beauce, or to be the ancestor of the ancient Bouvier de Roules. The Bouvier des Flandres assists humans as a guard dog, but also as a defense and police dog. Thanks to its incredible sense of smell, it is also appreciated and used as a tracking dog. Well-known as a herding dog, the Bouvier des Flandres is a daring and very good watchdog, with a natural suspicion that makes it reactive in the event of danger. Calm and gentle, Bouviers are totally devoted to their master, making them ideal playmates for children. The Bouvier des Flandres is a stocky, medium-sized dog with a muscular but not heavy body. Their rather long, rough, dense coat forms whiskers and a beard on their face. Their coat is generally gray, brindle or black, sometimes black.
