Australian Cattle Dog

History, origin & features

The Australian Cattle Dog was created for a very specific reason: Anglo-Australian shepherds needed a sturdy herding dog for their initially wild cattle, capable of holding them and attacking in case of danger.
The Australian Cattle Dog is a cross between the Dingo (a wild dog living in Australia) and the blue merle shorthaired Collie (imported by the English). The Australian Cattle Dog is a herding dog par excellence: hard-working and responsive, it is highly prized in its homeland.
Loyal and protective, Australian Cattle Dogs are very attached to their master and are gentle with children. He has a tendency to bite the heels of cattle, an act he sometimes repeats on strangers if he senses a threat. Australian Cattle Dogs are rather small compared with other sheepdogs and cattle dogs.
They are harmonious, powerful and well-balanced.
