Bobtail

History, origin & features

The Bobtail or Old English Sheepdog is now considered to be a very old dog of British origin. However, its past is not very clear. Its ancestors are thought to be European Shepherd Dogs or dogs like the Owtcharka and Bergamasco. The Briard and the Russian Shepherd Dog may also be its ancestors, as may the Caucasian Shepherd Dog and the Bergamasco Shepherd Dog, from which it takes on certain characteristics. The Bobtail or Old English Sheepdog is a large, vigorous, muscular dog with a harmonious build. They are easily recognized by their thick coat, distinctive barking voice and distinctive gait,
reminiscent of a bear. Bobtails take care of each member of their family as if they were in charge of a herd. Coat: abundant, rough, shaggy, not curly. Hair covers the entire body. The undercoat provides effective protection against the elements.
Color: gray, grayish or blue. Uniform color for body and hindquarters, with or without small white markings at the tips of the legs. Head, neck, legs and underside of belly must be white, with or without markings.
Head: large, square-shaped. The stop is well defined, the nose strong and black, with large nostrils. The muzzle is strong, square and truncated.
Ears: small, carried flat on the sides of the skull.
Eyes: dark or minnows, set wide apart. Pigmented eye rims are desirable, but not light eyes.
Body: short, compact, square-shaped. The loins are broad and slightly arched, the chest ample and deep. Tail
