Bichon Bolognese

History, origin & features

The Bolognese is a very old breed (already known in Roman times) and was widespread in the Bologna region. This breed of dog is very similar to the Maltese. During the Renaissance, it was highly prized by the ladies of the European courts and was considered a valuable gift. Today, their numbers have plummeted, and there are few of the breed left outside Italy. The Bolognese is the perfect companion dog. Bolognese are cheerful, gentle and docile dogs that love to play, making them ideal companions for children. They are also ideal for the elderly, as they are calm and don't need much physical exercise. Very attached to his master, he's nonetheless a guardian: he'll warn him if he senses danger coming. The Bolognese is an elegant, cheerful little dog with a lively expression. They have a long, wispy coat of pure white.
