Curly-coated bichon

History, origin & features

In the past, the Bichon Frise was known as the “Tenerife”. Although its origins are unclear, it is assumed to be descended from the Bolognese. Introduced to France during the reign of François 1er, it was the preferred companion of noble ladies in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is still very much in vogue today. Bichons are playful, curious and lively companions. The Bichon Frise has all the characteristics of a companion dog: cheerful, lively and naturally calm, it doesn't need a great deal of physical activity and is therefore perfectly suited to “living room life”. Affectionate and playful, they are ideal for both children and the elderly. They can, however, be snippy towards other dogs, especially if they're bigger than they are, so it's important to socialize them properly from an early age, especially by taking them to puppy school. The Bichon Frise is a small dog with a proud, high head carriage. Its dark eyes are lively and expressive, and its nose is black. Their coat is long and very loose, resembling the fur of the Mongolian goat. The coat is pure white.
