The Slovak Shepherd Dog - also known as the Slovak Tchouvatch, or simply Cuvac - is an ancient breed of dog from Slovakia, descended from the wolfhounds that inhabited the Slovak mountains in the pre-glacial era. Used since time immemorial as a shepherd's dog in this very arid region, this breed has withstood the test of time, and has evolved with the territory. This breed is distinguished by its intrepid, courageous and lively temperament, making it an exceptional herding dog, even in the face of wolves or bears. The word “cuvac” means “to hear”, reflecting their vigilance and wisdom: they don't act without thinking. They are very attached to their master and family. Slovakian Chuvash are large, majestic dogs that are solid, massive and robust. Their coat, generally white, is long, forming a fur to protect them from the cold, except on the head and limbs.
