Finnish Lapland Shepherd Dog

History, origin & features

Used for centuries by the Lapps to guard their reindeer herds, the Finnish Lapphund was recognized as an independent breed in 1996 to finally separate the two Lapponian dogs: the Finnish Lapphund and the Finnish Lapphund. The Finnish Lapphund is distinguished by its docile, zealous character. They are excellent family dogs, whose character is easy to learn.
Rigorous and friendly, Finnish Lapphunds are ideal working companions, perfectly at ease with other dogs. A good guardian, he sometimes barks easily. Affectionate and jovial, they love their master's presence, but remain independent. With their lively expression, Finnish Lapponian Shepherd Dogs are medium-sized Spitz-type dogs that are muscular but lightly built. Their coat is medium-length, rather straight and stiff, with a fine, dense undercoat. Color varies from black to brown, gray with nuances, sometimes with white patches on neck, chest and feet.
