Atlas Shepherd Dog

History, origin & features

Inhabiting the mountains of North Africa for thousands of years, the Atlas Sheepdog, or “Aïdi”, has always been used as a herding dog: it doesn't drive its flock, but protects it and its master's habitat from danger. They are renowned for their resistance to extreme climates.
Today, the breed's name comes from Morocco. Atlas Shepherd Dogs are distinguished by their loyalty and courage. Independent by temperament, they are nevertheless very attached to their master, and will not hesitate to defend him or react in the event of danger. Easy to train, he'll also protect his flock like no one else, and poses no problem in a family with children. The Atlas Shepherd is a solid, powerful, athletic dog with a lively look. Their medium-length coat is thick and dense. Its coat color is very diverse, ranging from fawn to black and brown, and may or may not be variegated.
