The Beauceron is a French breed that first appeared at a dog show in 1897, but the breed has a long history and a reputation for being good watchdogs. Endowed with a very strong temperament, Beaucerons are often used for herding, defense and utility work. The Beauce Sheepdog needs firm but healthy authority to make it a wonderful working companion.
Straightforward and loyal, they will also make excellent companions for those who love dogs with character. Beaucerons are solid, hardy, powerful dogs that are well built and muscular, without being heavy. Their coat is short, coarse and hard, with a very short undercoat. Coat color varies according to class:
black and tan
harlequin / tricolor: gray and black with tan patches.
