Westie or West highland white terrier

History, origin & features

A breed of Scottish origin, the West Highland White Terrier (or Westie) is a member of the Scottish terrier family. Its white color was established by Colonel Malcolm of Poltalloch, a hunting enthusiast, so as not to confuse it with the color of the fox. Westies are active, lively, cheerful and mischievous dogs. Like his Terrier brethren, he is a good hunting dog, but his affectionate, tender side and plush appearance make him a real pet. He loves to play with children and is always eager to be petted. He has a tendency to bark, but without creating a real nuisance for those around him. Westies are small, compact, robust and muscular. The topcoat is hard, about 5 cm long, without curls. The undercoat is short, dense and full. The coat is pure white.
