History, origin & features
The Beagle is a “common” breed of hunting dog that was used in England under the Tudors as early as the 15th century. It is said to be descended from the Foxhound or Harrier. The breed's use in hunting subsequently spread after the Second World War. Beagles are characterized by their cheerfulness, determination and energy. They are lively, intelligent dogs with a stable temperament that is rarely aggressive, making them ideal companions both for the family and for hunting, especially racing. What's more, Beagles are easy to train. However, you'll need to watch out for its predatory instinct, which is more developed than in other dogs, and train it regularly to prevent it from becoming destructive. Despite his size, he will need regular physical activity to satisfy his needs. These are compact, vigorous dogs with a supple, elegant physique. Their short, dense coat is usually tricolored, accepting many shades, and can be either piebald (with large patches) or spotted.
