Welsh Corgi Pembroke

History, origin & features

The Welsh Corgi Pembroke is said to be the result of crossbreeding between native dogs and Viking dogs of the Nordic Spitz type. There are two varieties of Welsh Corgi: the Cardigan and the Pembroke, both used as sheepdogs and farm dogs. The Pembroke is a lively, active dog. Still used today as a sheepdog, it's nicknamed the “heeler”. The Pembroke is a small dog, short-legged and long, but very vigorous. Unlike its namesake, the Cardigan, it has no tail. Its coat is medium-length, with a dense undercoat. Coat color is red, fawn, black or black, with or without white markings.
