Stichelhaar

History, origin & features

The Deutsch Stichelhaar, or German Wirehaired Pointer, is thought to be one of the oldest breeds of German Wirehaired Pointer, descended from an ancient variety of the Oysel Hound. Deutsch Stichelhaars are outstanding hunting dogs: courageous, hardy and responsive, they specialize in hunting with feathers. They have a strong character and are very independent, so early training is recommended. Appreciated as a watchdog, opinions are divided as a family companion, but they are generally considered to be non-aggressive and very friendly to children. These medium-sized dogs are robust-looking, but lean-muscled. They have full eyebrows. Their coat is stiff and hard, about 4 cm long, and brown with or without white patches on the chest.
