History, origin & features
The result of a cross between the Bulldog and the Old English Terrier, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier - more commonly known as the “Staffie” - is a breed that was created in the early 19th century in the United Kingdom, initially to take part in animal fighting. The breed was selected for its courage, intelligence and fearlessness. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is also playful, loyal, particularly affectionate and trustworthy, making it a great companion for the whole family. Like any other breed of dog, it's important to train them from an early age, so that they learn the right codes. The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a compact, muscular animal of great strength and power. Active and agile, Staffordshire Bull Terriers are sporting dogs. Its tail is short, as are its ears and coat. Their coats are generally solid red, black, white or fawn, with occasional patches of white.
