Shih Tzu
Country: Tibet Life expectancy: 14 years old Height: 20 to 25 cm females / 22 to 26 cm males Weight: 4 to 8 kg
History, origin & features
The Shih Tzu originated in Tibet. This “Tibetan Lion”, a translation of its Chinese name, is a cross between small dogs imported to China for the imperial palace and the Lhasa Apso. It was around 1930 that this new breed conquered England, the country that is now the breed's patron. The Shih Tzu is the ultimate lapdog. Jovial, playful and full of energy, they can adapt to children as well as the elderly. Very communicative and with a small temperament, he'll know how to express his needs and affection.
Beware, however: despite its small size, the Shih Tzu is a high-energy dog that needs daily outings to develop its full potential. The Shih Tzu is a small dog, long and proud. Its plush appearance is accentuated by its long, dense coat, with an effective undercoat. As for coat color, there is a wide variety, but for show purposes we prefer a white list, with a white tip for the tail.
