This molossus of German origin is one of the oldest breeds: already present in Ancient Rome, it was used as a guard dog, whether for property or herds.
In fact, they accompanied Roman troops to Rottweil, an important garrison in Württemberg that would later give them their name.
To this day, the Rottweiler is still selected for this purpose, but it has earned a new stripe: that of police dog, for which it has been officially recognized since 1910. Despite appearances, the Rottweiler is a good-tempered, very attached dog, making it an excellent companion, even for households with children. Rottweilers are attentive, docile and obedient, rarely losing their temper. Massive and muscular, Rottweilers have a stocky appearance that nevertheless exudes strength and suppleness. Rottweilers are very vigorous dogs with a black and tan coat and smooth, short hair.
