Alpine Basset Hound

History, origin & features

As far back as antiquity, hunting dogs whose appearance strongly resembled that of the Alpine Dachsbracke were used in Austria. History has it that they were taken to Turkey and Egypt by Austrian hunters at the court of Rudolf of Hasburg. The Alpine Dachsbracke is characterized by its unshakeable determination. Robust and weather-resistant, they are used by mountain hunters as scenthounds or as hounds on the trail of hares and foxes.
They are exceptional hunters, docile and devoted, but sometimes runaways. Alpine Dachsbrackes are short-legged, compact and very athletic.
Their coat is short and dense, ideally fawn to charcoal red or black and tan. The thick undercoat is ideal for withstanding the elements.
