The Bobtail (Old English sheepdog)

History, origin & features

The Bobtail is a sheepdog of disputed origins: it is thought to be descended from the dogs of Caesar's legion that came to Britain, or to be the result of crosses between different European shepherds. Its name derives from the custom of shortening its tail (bobtail). The Bobtail is a shepherd's dog par excellence: docile, intelligent and loyal, it knows how to handle its flock like no other. Very affectionate, they love children and human company, and show no signs of aggression unless they feel their family or flock is in danger. He can therefore fulfill the role of herding and companion dog without the slightest doubt. These medium-to-large-sized dogs are short-legged, stocky, strong and compact. He is distinguished by his magnificent, abundant, shaggy coat, which makes him a veritable hairball. The color of its coat is divided into two distinct parts: the rear part varies in shades of gray, and the front part, including head and legs, is white.
