History, origin & features
Originating in southwest France, hence its name, the Basset Bleu de Gascogne breed has been around for a very long time, but has developed especially since the end of the 19th century. As a Basset Bleu de Gascogne, this breed does not fail in its duties; it is a very good hunter for shooting.
Lively and docile, he's the ideal companion for hunting enthusiasts, but also for his family, to whom he shows a great deal of affection.
He has a distinctive hunter's bark, which can sometimes disturb the surrounding neighborhood. That said, they make excellent watchdogs. The Basset Bleu de Gascogne is a small, light-looking dog with a muscular, compact physique. Its distinctive head is a reminder of its close kinship with the Grand Bleu de Gascogne. The coat is short, with white and black flecks marked with black spots, giving it a characteristic “slate blue” appearance.
