Wirehaired Griffon Korthals

History, origin & features

The Korthals Wirehaired Pointing Griffon was created in the 19th century by Dutchman Edward Korthals through rigorous selection and cross-breeding between various German (around 600 in all), Belgian and French breeds.
The sought-after aptitudes were above all ease with hunting and tracking, while preserving its physical appearance. A fine hunter, the Korthals Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is no less affectionate and attentive, if occasionally stubborn. Particularly gentle, they are also great companions for children. They can also be excellent watchdogs. Sporty and vigorous, the Korthals Wirehaired Griffon owes its rustic expression to its beard, bushy eyebrows and boar bristle-like coat. Their coat is brown, roan or bicolor, gray with brown patches, white and brown, or white and orange.
