Fila Brasileiro

History, origin & features

Descended from Mastiffs and Dogues, the Fila Brasileiro was introduced to Brazil by the conquistadors in the 16th century, who used it as a war dog. The Fila Brasileiro was later used on the American continent as a guard dog for slaves and plantations. Courageous and determined, the Fila Brasileiro has all the qualities of an excellent guard dog. Faithful, obedient and docile, Fila Brasileiro are confident, serene and very sociable animals, at home with children. Fila Brasileiro are imposing-looking dogs, and are registered as molosses with the Fédération Cynologique Internationale. Powerful and strong, they are nonetheless harmonious. Their coat is short and thick, fawn, uniform or zebra. The muzzle may have a black mask.
