History, origin & features
The Brittany Spaniel is France's best-known and smallest pointing dog. The breed's origins date back to the 20th century, when the first breed standards were adopted in Brittany. The breed is said to be the result of numerous crosses, notably between Setters, Pointers and Braques. The Brittany Spaniel is an all-rounder: an extremely sociable, intelligent and versatile dog that adapts to any environment. Balanced, attentive, courageous, loyal and very affectionate, they are as good a hunting dog as they are a pet.
Beware, however: as a hunting dog par excellence, they need daily exercise (tracking, running) to stay balanced both mentally and physically. The Brittany Spaniel is a small, compact, athletic but elegant dog. They have a very short tail and a fine, flat or wavy coat. Their coats are usually two-tone (white/orange, white/black or white/brown) or even three-tone, and more rarely solid. It is sometimes speckled or mottled.
