The history of the Basenji is little known: originating in Central Africa, specifically the Congo, this breed is very old, with the earliest traces dating back 5,000 years.
African tribes used them in the forests as hunting and guide dogs. The Basenji is an affectionate dog, loyal to its family. It is nevertheless very independent and wary of strangers. Distinguished by its cleanliness, it will never soil your home.
Despite this, Basenjis are outdoor dogs that need to exercise every day. The Basenji is a small but tall-legged, muscular and dry dog. Their short coat is mainly saure in color, with white patches and tail tip. There are also white and black dogs, or white, black and tan.
