History, origin & features
Originating in China, the Chow Chow is an atypical breed of dog with a lion-like appearance and a distinctive blue tongue. Known for its independence, it has a loyal personality. Its thick, smooth or rough coat requires very regular care. They were used as guard dogs, hunting dogs and sometimes as draught animals. Unfortunately, it was also used for its fur and meat. Its imposing build and extreme vigilance were also used to guard the temples and imperial palaces of the time. The Chow Chow has a striking characteristic: its tongue is blue/black, including its palate, gums and lips. Its thick coat gives it an adorable lion-like appearance. They come in black, white, blue, fawn and cream. This imposing breed of dog has robust muscles and a regal appearance. Ears are small, thick and straight. The muzzle is short and broad. The chest is broad and the stilted gait reminiscent of a big cat.
