Spanish Water Dog

History, origin & features

The origins of the Spanish Water Dog, nicknamed the “Turkish Dog”, go back a long way, and little is known about when it first appeared. It is thought to be a descendant of the ancient Barbet. It is mainly used as a sheepdog in southern Spain, in Andalusia, but is sometimes found in a hunting role in wetlands. This breed stands out for its qualities as a sheepdog: hard-working, intelligent and docile, it is eager to learn, which is why it is also very comfortable as a hunting and fishing dog.
Their water-resistant coat enables them to work on wet terrain. These are jovial, well-balanced dogs. Medium-sized, Spanish Water Dogs are well-proportioned, muscular and athletic. Considered hardy, they nonetheless look good. They have a singular coat: curly and woolly, it can form into a rope when a little longer. Their coat color is generally :
Unicolor: white, black and brown tones.
Bicolor: white and black / white and brown.
