History, origin & features
The Pharaoh's Hound is a breed known since ancient Egypt and used by its people as a hunting dog. It then crossed the Mediterranean to settle on the island of Malta, where the breed was selected. The Pharaoh's Hound was originally appreciated as a hunting dog: vigilant, responsive and lively, it has excellent vision and a formidable sense of smell. Today, however, Pharaohs can be found in an entirely different role: that of companion dog. Their affectionate, sociable, friendly and jovial temperament is sure to appeal to the whole family. Medium-sized, this breed exudes poise. Its slender body and well-developed chest are a sign of great speed. Its expression is alert. Its short, fine, glossy coat is reddish-brown to dark reddish-brown, with white markings on specific parts of the body: tip of tail, chest and toes.
