Black Norwegian Elk Dog

History, origin & features

The Norwegian Black Elkhound is a very old breed, dating back to the time of the Vikings, when the elkhound was their faithful companion. Norwegian Elkhounds are formidable hunters. Naturally courageous, they spot their prey thanks to their acute sense of smell. The Black Norwegian Elkhound is a smaller-than-average Spitz, but much lighter-boned and lighter-looking than its gray-haired namesake. It sports a dense, tight, glossy black coat.
