Mallorcan Shepherd Dog

History, origin & features

The Mallorcan Sheepdog originated on the island of the same name in the Balearic Islands. Very few traces have been found to trace the breed's history. All that is known is that it was used as a herding dog, and more recently as a fighting dog. The Mallorcan Shepherd Dog was first recognized in the 18th century. The Majorcan Shepherd is characterized by great shyness, which needs to be overcome by socializing him from an early age. But he's not shy, he's very brave and hard-working, totally devoted to his master, and doesn't take kindly to strangers. His eyes confirm his intelligence. Majorcan Shepherd Dogs are large, muscular and hardy. This breed comes in two varieties: shorthaired and short-haired. In both cases, the touch is soft and fine. The breed's only color is black, with occasional white patches on the chest and feet.
