History, origin & features
The tricolor Yugoslavian Hound is a very old breed, said to be descended from the same ancestors as other Balkan hounds. For many years, there was debate over its status as a breed in its own right.
In 1969, it was finally decided to distinguish the breed from its namesake, the Yugoslav Mountain Hound. It is little known outside its native land. The Tricolor Yugoslavian Hound is distinguished by its tenacity and energy. They are highly prized as hunting dogs, especially for bloodhounds. These hardy dogs are undeniably courageous and hard-working. They can also be calm and affectionate with their family, but they are above all hunting dogs. These medium-sized dogs are distinguished by their robustness and alert expression. They are fairly long, with hanging ears. Their short, harsh coat is tricolored.
