Slovak Hound

History, origin & features

The origins of the Slovakian Hound are not well known, and we don't have many details about it, apart from the writings in which it appears, which date back to Antiquity. The result of crossbreeding between various native breeds from neighboring regions, the Slovakian Hound was recognized as an official breed in 1963. Slovakian Hounds are outstanding hunters, especially of wild boar and carnivores. Equipped with a formidable sense of smell, they are also very tenacious, pursuing their prey relentlessly with a bark that never falters. Occasionally used as a guard dog, Slovakian Hounds are not meant to be mere pets. The Slovakian Hound is a medium-sized to small breed, well built but light in appearance. Their ears are floppy. Their coat, 2 to 5 cm long, is black with tan (mahogany-brown) patches on specific parts of the body.
