Affenpinscher

History, origin & features

Originally from Germany, the Affenpinscher or “monkey dog” was considered both a rat hunter and a pet.
Almost extinct after the Second World War, the breed is now back on the scene. Affenpinschers are naturally fearless, attentive, tenacious and loyal. They are pleasant family dogs that are very attached to their masters, and can play with children as well as rid you of mice. His sometimes stubborn character makes him a very friendly dog all the same. The Affenpinscher is a small, compact and robust dog. Its trotting gait and head with a simian expression (bushy eyebrows, circle around the eyes, imposing beard and whiskers) are characteristic features of this breed. With a short, thick, rough coat, the color is predominantly black, although there are occasional brown patches or stripes.
